His job scope covered all matters related to civil engineering such as piling, piping, surveying and brickworks. As of now he is a Principal Assistant Director of Public Works Department, Malaysia. He oversees project development which include monitoring project progress.

Before joining the civil service as Diplomatic and Administrative Officer, Zairil has been attached to Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd. as a journalist for the General Desk. He was task to cover issues and stories ranging from civil socities to politic. Currently his designation in the public service is Principal Assistant Director of Public Service Department, Malaysia. He is actively involved in charitable and voluntary organisations such as Public Civil Defense where he holds a rank of Mejar Bersekutu (Pertahanan Awam).

Detail of Assignment

  1. You are required to set up a webpage in wordpress ,blogger or any other free website provider. You should paste a photograph and provide  particulars such as name, matrixs no., and course. (10 marks)

  2. MIS.in action.(20% hardcopy of report,  10%  presentation)

    For this assignment, you are required to interview a person who is using or who has access to an IS system that is slightly more complicated than Microsoft Office.excell etc  software. (example-banking system, loan application system etc). Among some of the information that you need to identify are:

    -Background of the company(what business, when it was formed, structure etc) and person (post, year of experience,what does that person do in the company)
    -What was the problem/opportunity that prompted the development of the system?
    -Who was involved in the development (top management, middle managers, user, IS professionals), and
    -what roles did each group of people play?What are the problems faced during the development stage.
    -The system: Name, what does it do, List of activities that it does,
    how does it make things easier/advantages of the system, what are some of  its disadvantages/weaknesses.
    -How does the employees feel about the system?
    -Any suggestions to improve the system.

    Must submit in hardcopy and present it in class. – by the 6th meeting (English)

SYNOPSIS
This course is designed to enable students to understand the importance of management information systems (MIS) in enhancing organizational effectiveness and the achievement of the desired  organisational results.This course will also enable students to understand how MIS can be used to assist the management of an organisation to run its operations and the achievement of advantage over other companies.


OBJECTIVES
The objective of this course is to:

• Expose students to the basic concepts of  Information System.
• Highlight to the students about the various types of IS resources available to the firm.
• Expose students to managing information resources and understand the convergence of technology and decision-making.
• Provide students with the knowledge of how to use IS as a tool to gain competitive advantage
